Garcon a la Pipe by Pablo Picasso

Garcon a la Pipe was painted by Pablo Picasso in 1905 at the age of 24.
Garcon a la Pipe replaced Portrait of Doctor Gachet by Vincent Van Gogh which sold for a pittance of only $82.5 million.
On October 18, 2006 Steve Wynn, a Las Vegas mogul, agreed to sell his Picasso 'Le Reve' that he bought in 1997 for $48.4 million for a record setting $139 million.
Now this would have been a new record except that Steve Wynn backed into the painting and put a 3" tear into it with his pointy elbow and as a result the record breaking sale did not go through and Steve Wynn still owns the Picasso.
Themost expensive painting ever sold is No. 5, 1948 by Jackson Pollock which fetched $140 million on Nov 2, 2006.
